Prof. Dr. Jochen Blum studierte Medizin in Siena, Mainz, Boston und London nach einer Ausbildung zum Geigenbauer bei M. Stelio Rossi in Siena/Italien und - nach Geigenunterricht in der Kindheit bei Wendelin Masanari und Violaunterricht in der Jugend bei Adalbert Baranski - dem Violaunterricht bei der Solobratschistin des Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchesters Claudia Wolvington am Conservatorio di Musica di Firenze.
Promotion im Bereich Neurochirurgie der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, dort dann auch Habilitation (Traumatologische Biomechanik) und geschäftsführender Oberarzt an der Unfall- und Handchirurgischen Universitätsklinik Mainz.
Seit 1995 Professor (apl.) für Musikphysiologie und Musikermedizin an der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main.
Seit 2005 Professor (apl.) für Unfall- und Handchirurgie an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, sowie Chefarzt des Zentrums für Unfallchirurgie, Orthopädie und Handchirurgie des Klinikum Worms, akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz.
Über 250 Fachpublikationen sowohl im Gebiet der Unfall- und Handchirurgie, wie auch im Bereich Musikphysiologie und Musikermedizin.
Herausgeber des im Thieme-Verlag publizierten Lehrbuches „Medizinische Probleme bei Musikern“. Gründer und Mitherausgeber der Fachzeitschrift „Musikphysiologie und Musikermedizin“.
Gründungsmitglied der „Deutschen Gesellschaft für Musikphysiologie und Musikermedizin“ (DGfMM) 1994 in München, seit 1994 Vizepräsident, von 1999 bis 2005 Präsident der DGfMM.
Wissenschaftlicher Leiter diverser Kongresse und Symposien für die DGfMM und Mitglied mehrerer nationaler und internationaler Gremien.

Prof. Dr. Jochen Blum studied medicine in Siena, Mainz, Boston, and London after training as a violin maker with M. Stelio Rossi in Siena, Italy. Following violin lessons in childhood with Wendelin Masanari and viola lessons in his youth with Adalbert Baranski, he studied viola with Claudia Wolvington, principal violist of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra, at the Conservatorio di Musica di Firenze.
He received his doctorate in neurosurgery from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where he also completed his habilitation (traumatological biomechanics) and served as senior consultant at the University Hospital of Trauma and Hand Surgery in Mainz.
Since 1995, he has been an adjunct professor of music physiology and musicians' medicine at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts.
Since 2005, Professor (adjunct) of Trauma and Hand Surgery at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, and Chief Physician of the Center for Trauma Surgery, Orthopedics, and Hand Surgery at Worms Hospital, an academic teaching hospital of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
Over 250 publications in the fields of trauma and hand surgery, as well as music physiology and musicians' medicine.
Editor of the textbook "Medical Problems in Musicians," published by Thieme. Founder and co-editor of the journal "Music Physiology and Musicians' Medicine."
Founding member of the German Society for Music Physiology and Musicians' Medicine (DGfMM) in Munich in 1994, Vice President from 1994, and President from 1999 to 2005.
Scientific Director of various congresses and symposia for the DGfMM and member of several national and international committees.
